Portable reusable straws with a case, are they worth carrying around

Portable reusable straws with a case, are they worth carrying around

For a lot of people, the challenge is not using reusable straws at home. It is remembering them when you leave the house. At home, everything is within reach and we love seeing our reusbale straws sat on draining boards freshly cleaned or in cutlery draws waiting to be used.

You open a drawer, you pick what you need, and it becomes part of your routine quite quickly.

But once you step outside, things change slightly. You are busy, you are carrying enough already, and convenience tends to take over.

Why portability matters more than we expect

Most single use straws are used when we are out. Coffee shops, takeaway drinks, picnics, long drives, days out with children. That is usually where the habit sits. So if your reusable straw stays in a kitchen drawer, it only solves part of the problem. Portability is really about bridging that gap between intention and reality and thats where our handy straws in travel tins come in. Available in single straws in tins, 2 straws in a tin and 4 straws in a tin, check out the range HERE.

What actually makes a straw portable

It sounds simple, but not all portable straws feel easy to carry. Usually, it comes down to a few small things.

  • - A case that keeps it clean
    - A size that fits comfortably into a bag or pocket
    - Something that does not feel fiddly to use or put away

Some straws are collapsible, which makes them compact. Others are full length but come with a slim case or pouch. Ours come in a small convinient aluminium travel tin which allows the straw to stay clean before you use it. Popping a used straw back in the tin also means the bottom of your bag wont get wet as the tin is sealed closed once srewed shut.

The bit people do not always think about Cleaning.

When you are at home, it is easy. Everything goes straight into the sink or dishwasher. Our straws can be washed in the sink with hot soapy water or in the dishwasher.

When you are out, it is different. You might rinse it quickly, or just put it back in its case to deal with later.

So a portable straw needs to feel manageable even when you are not in your usual routine.

If it feels awkward, or messy, it is less likely to be used again. Our aluminium travel tins are waterproof once shut due to the small plastic liner in the top of the tin.

When portability becomes more than convenience

Something that comes up quite often when I am at markets is that people are not always buying for themselves.

They are buying for someone who needs a straw when they are out. Elderly parents, relatives with arthritis, Parkinson’s, or reduced mobility. Situations where drinking without a straw can be difficult, especially outside the home. In those moments, having a straw with you is not just about reducing waste. It is about making things easier, and sometimes possible.

STRAWS AS A DRINKING AND MOBILITY AID

Paper straws are often offered as the alternative when you are out, but they are not always suitable.

Some are made using wheat starch to hold the layers together, which can be a problem for people with allergies or sensitivities. And even without that, they tend to soften quickly, which is not always practical, particularly for anyone who needs more time or support when drinking.

So, are portable reusable straws worth it

We think they are, and thats why our straws in travel tins continue to be our best sellers!  For some people, they will be used occasionally. For others, they will be used every day. And for some, they make a much bigger difference than we might first assume.
