-------- OR --------

The UK Government has released a 25-year strategy which aims to reduce the amount of avoidable plastic waste by 2042. It's designed to drastically cut the amount of plastic pollution that inevitably ends up in the sea.

So far some small changes have made a big difference when it comes to Goverment led intitialitves. The 5p levy on carrier bags has seen a massive decrease in the amount of plastic bags we use in the UK, Scotland and Wales since 2017 (approx 83% reduction in fact),  which in turn has reduced the impact on marine pollution by 30%. Next, it's the plastic straw ban - from October 2020 the UK will ban single use plastic straws to further reduce marine pollution

Following a research study by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) 2017 it highlighted that the 10th most common plastic to be washed up in the sores of GB was cutlery, plastic trays and plastic straws.

4.5 billion drinking straws (large drinking straws) are used in the UK fast food industry every year. The most current alternative - the paper straw just isn’t acceptable! Who wants a soggy straw?

Once the ban is introduced, cafes, bars and restaurants will be able to have plastic straws on site but these must be kept behind the bar and only provided if the customer requests the use of a straw.

Medical enabling straws are exempt from the single use plastic straw ban.

By providing our customers with a convenient reusable alternative to single-use plastic straws we believe our customers will want to use their reusable silicone straws opposed to single-use alternatives at home and when out and about.
